ROGUE RIVER, OR — The young caretaker of a coin-operated carwash here is building his reputation as a championship golfer, the Mail Tribune reported.
The Aug. 25 story profiled high school golfer Kevin Murphy who maintains a three-bay carwash. Murphy uses the proceeds from the self-serve carwash to buy gas, pay for car insurance and pay for his cell phone.
In between golf tournaments, Murphy fills the wash’s change machines, checks the soap mixtures and stocks vending machines. He also cleans the bays keeping them “pristine.”
As a golfer, Murphy has captured a national junior event, won an individual state championship, represented Oregon in tournaments and become the youngest champion in the history of the Southern Oregon Golf Championships.
Murphy also has an equipment deal with TaylorMade, and he has verbally accepted a full scholarship for golf to Oregon State, the story noted.
